4.  DESCRIPTIVE (Depkripsi)

1)    Purpose (Tujuan )
To describe a particular person, place or thing.
(Mendeskripsikan (ciri-ciri) seseorang, tempat atau benda tertentu)

2)   Generic Structure (Struktur Umum)

  • Identification (Pengenalan Subyek),
  • Description (Ciri-ciri subyek, misalnya tampilan fisik, kualitas, perilaku umum, sifat-sifat)

3)     Linguistic Features (Ciri-ciri Kebahasaan)

Menggunakan:

  • Nouns tertentu, misalnya:  teacher, house, my cat, dsb.
  • Simple present tense.
  • Noun phrase untuk memberikan informasi tentang subjek, misalnya: 1t was a large open rowboat, a sweet young lady, dsb.
  • Berbagai macam adjectives, yang bersifat describing, numbering, classifying, misalnya, two strong legs, sharp white fang, dsb.
  • Relating verbs (kata kerja penghubung) untuk memberikan informasi tentang subjek, misalnya, My mum is really cool, It has very thick fur, dsb
  • Thinking verbs (kata kerja pikiran/persepsi) dan feeling verbs (kata kerja perasaan) untuk mengungkapkan pandangan pribadi penulis tentang subyek, misalnya: We believe it is an interesting place, I think it is a clever animal, He feels it is wonderful, dsb.
  • Action verbs (kata kerja tindakan), misalnya: Our new puppy bites our shoes, dsb.
  • Abverbs (kata keterangan: waktu, tempat atau cara) untuk memberikan informasi tambahan tentang perilaku tersebut, misalnya fast/quickly, at the tree house, dsb.

4)    Example

The Grand Mosque of Demak

Identification (Pengenalan Subyek) The Grand Mosque of Demak  is a historical monument of the first Islamic Kingdom in Java.
Description It is located in Demak, one of regencies in the Province of Central Java. In the north of the Mosque we can find the graves of the princess of the Royal Family, Patah, Sabrang Lor, Sekar Seda Lepen, Trenggono and some others. Besides the building, there are also some old treasures like some big ceramic jars, wall ornament from Campa Country and other valuables.The mosque has some carved pillars, which are believed to be taken from the Majapahit Kingdom. One of the pillars is made of tatal (small pieces of wood) as can be seen at the ceiling. Demak is an historic town on the road to Kudus and Surabaya, twenty-five kilometers from Semarang. Raden Patah established the Sultanate of Demak in 1500, when it became the first Islamic kingdom in Java. Islam was introduced via India by Muslim traders and Demak, as one of Java’s most important ports, was rapidly converted to the new religion
